Background of our association!

The Ethiopian Community Association in Victoria is a non-profit and non-political organization that was established in 1984. Its mission is to provide settlement support to new Ethiopian settlers and asylum seekers, as well as to help elders.

The association actively organizes cultural and sporting activities and advocates on behalf of its community members. Additionally, it collaborates closely with local councils, service providers, and government agencies. The Ethiopian community in Victoria is the largest in Australia, comprising approximately 22,000 people with Ethiopian ancestry. Among them, 8,000 individuals were born in Ethiopia.

This vibrant community includes diverse cultures such as Amhara, Oromo, Somali, Tigray, and Harari. Each of these cultures contributes unique traditions, languages, and religions. It’s important to note that most members of the Ethiopian community either arrived under humanitarian programs or are children of those who arrived under such schemes. The Ethiopian Community Association in Victoria plays a vital role in supporting Ethiopian community members, fostering cultural exchange, and collaborating with local entities.
